The Duck Push Up Contest Results – Week 2

If you were paying attention to the Duck at the end of the game after doing his last set of 69 push ups (yes, that’s 6-9), you could probably tell that he had worked hard in yesterday’s game against Nevada where the Oregon Ducks won their contest against Nevada, 69-20.

If you do your math right, you will noticed that, for the day, the Duck ended up doing 375 push ups. That’s more like the Duck we knew of last year. Hopefully, this is the start of a good work out season for the Duck while we progress to another winning season.

The winner of this week’s contest will be announced shortly, once we have reviewed all of the entries.

Thanks again for all the entries and don’t forget to come back again this week to put your guess in.

What To Wear – The official guide on Duck Game Attire

During the 2011 football season, the University of Oregon Athletic Department is encouraging fans to show their Duck pride by wearing YELLOW, BLACK or GREEN to designated games. The color themes are displayed in several locations to help fans know what to wear:

  • Check your game tickets for home games
  • View the whole schedule online
  • Scan the QR code on your football pocket schedule

Catch a peek of the flag flying at Autzen each week

To commemorate this promotion of fan unity, the Athletic Department has also teamed up with Nike to produce three different colored one-of-a-kind t-shirts to be sold on Oregon’s Team Fan Shop and at all Duck Store locations.

Sports Notes

Eaton’s Engagement ———-

Two and a half years ago when they were in Sisters, I met with these two outstanding Duck athletes. Brianne is Canada’s women’s heptathlon champion and an NCAA champion. Ashton (originally from Bend) is not only an NCAA champion, but now the world record holder in the men’s heptathlon and just finished second in the decathlon at the World Championships held in South Korea. He’ll be a leading contender to win gold at the London Olympics next year.

They have been a “number” for several years now and announced their engagement recently – see the article below.

Theisen-Eaton

Published: September 04. 2011 4:00AM PST

Brianne Theisen and Ashton Eaton, both of Eugene, plan to marry after the 2012 summer Olympics.

The future bride is the daughter of Calvin and Kimberly Theisen, of Humbolt, Saskatchewan, Canada. She is a graduate of Humbolt Collegiate Institute and a 2011 graduate of the University of Oregon, where she studied finance. A track and field athlete, she is a Canadian Olympic team hopeful.

Eaton is the son of Roslyn Eaton, of Bend. He is a graduate of Mountain View High School and a 2011 graduate of UO, where he studied psychology. He is a professional athlete in track and field and is a U.S. Olympic team hopeful.

LSU – Oregon

He wasn’t on the field but in my opinion Cliff Harris was a major factor in the Ducks’ loss to LSU. The backups who filled in for him committed mistakes that Harris probably would not have made that resulted in two LSU touchdowns. No question that Oregon’s self-destructive errors compounded the team’s troubles (12 penalties, 3 lost fumbles and an interception) – they were huge. But Harris is a weapon the Ducks couldn’t afford  to lose. Let’s hope that he has met the terms of his suspension and that he’ll be back on the field very soon.

T&F World Championships

Sunday was the final day of the championships, and for the USA, some mixed results. On the negative side the men’s 4×100 relay team was snakebit once again. After two good handoffs they were in strong competition with Jamaica when unfortunately the British runner in Lane 3 happened to hit our third runner, Darvis Patton, in Lane 4 as he was about to hand the baton to our last runner. The baton never got there as Patton was knocked off his feet and the team couldn’t finish the race. Jamaica went on to set a World Record of 37.04 seconds. Would we have finished second? Likely, but we’ll never know.

It was a different result for the women. They won the 4×100, and as a part of that team, Allyson Felix collected her tenth World Championship medal (8 of them gold). Her first was when she was 17; she’s 25 now.

The USA’s Christian Taylor won the men’s triple jump, and Will Claye got the bronze.

Finally, in the men’s 5000 meters, it was looking good for Galen Rupp entering the final lap as he briefly took the lead, but was gassed and faded to 9th, over 5 seconds behind the winner. However USA’s Bernard Lagat took 2nd to the British winner, Mohamed Farah, who happens to now live in Portland and trains under one-time Oregon great, Alberto Salazar. For Lagat his 5th medal in this race is more than any other in the men’s 5000.

The USA comes home with 25 medals – 12 gold and 8 silver – to lead all of the nations who competed.

Duck Push Up Contest – Week 2

The Duck is at it again. He had a fairly easy time last week in Dallas at the game we all want to forget against LSU, where he racked up a whopping 69 push ups with the 27 points the Ducks scored. Let’s hope this week is better.

Don’t forget to go to www.OregonDuckClub.org and enter for a chance at some fantastic prizes. Simply guess the total number of push ups the Duck will do during the game and you could WIN!

This contest is open to all, including non club members. So pass this contest on to all of your friends and let them know.

World Championships – Day 7

No Oregon representative competed yesterday, although the USA Men’s 4×400 relay won Gold in 2:58.82. This was about 1/2 second slower that the semi-final heat on which Oregon’s Michael Berry ran the prior day. In a women’s 4×400 heat the USA moves on, running the 4th fastest qualifying time.

The USA’s Dwight Phillips won Gold in the men’s long jump (8.45 meters). Our shotputters finished as follows: Cantwell – 4th; Hoffa – 5th; Whiting – 7th and Nelson – 8th. In the women’s 200 meter final, Jeter finished 2nd, Felix 3rd and Solomon 4th; no doubt a disappointing meet for Allyson Felix who had hopes of winning gold in both the 200 and 400 (where she finished 2nd).

In semi-final races we still have Montano & Vessey in the women’s 800, and Walter Dix in the men’s 200; he’ll be facing Usain Bolt in the final. And in a quarter final we still have 3 qualifiers in the women’s 100 hurdles.

Tomorrow Oregon Track Club’s Matthew Centrowitz runs in the 1500M final, and Galen Rupp and Bernard Lagat run the men’s 5000 meters on September 4.

LET’S GET YOUR QUACK ON!

I don’t know about you, but I started reading this post at Adicted to Quack, “Quack Fix: Kelly Releases depth chart…” and I started to get goose bumps. Or maybe more appropriately, I got got DUCK BUMPS.

I am sooooo ready for this season, as are so many Duck fans out there. There are quite a few that are making the trip to Dallas to support our Ducks. But if you’re like me, you’re not going to make it. Instead, we have to settle for our favorite pub, sports bar, or friends house that has the fullest keg.

So, I was thinking… How are you going to spend opening day?

Reply to this post and let us all know how…
